8 Months Old [Haley]

Haley is now 8 months old! Well, 8 and 1/2 months to be exact. It’s just hard to find the time to do these update posts! I love sharing them with you – even if they are a little late.

8 Months Old Haley

She’s crawling and is getting faster everyday! She started crawling a few days after she turned 8 months. She had been scooting around for a little while, but now she’s got the crawl thing down. And I have my hands full! She’s constantly after cords and iPhones. She’s into electronics, I guess. It’s so nice to be able to leave the room now and just have her crawl after me, instead of crying if I went from the living room to the kitchen without her. Now she just crawls along. She’s just about to start pulling her self up to stand. She’s been pulling up to her knees the past few days – so it won’t be long!

She’s also very talkative. More so than I remember Grady being. The other day it sounded like she said, “hello.” Lots of babbling baba and dada. And I think she’s starting to understand some of the signs I’ve been using with her – milk and more. She’s gets very excited when I sign milk before she nurses.

Breastfeeding is still going well. No problems in that department! She’s eating a lot more solids now, too. We’re still focusing on letting her feed herself (baby-led weaning), but we’ve been giving her some purees here and there. I’ve had a small stockpile of baby food and I didn’t want it to go to waste. She loves bringing the spoon to her own mouth though. And she’s now a pro at feeding herself from baby food pouches. She sucks that stuff down all by herself.

She’s still waking up between 3 and 4 times a night. We had one very rough night where she was up 8 times – but that’s not her normal. I had had a small cupcake that day and it seemed to bother her tummy (ie. her dairy sensitivity) or it could have also been teething. She’s now got 4 teeth. 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom.

Grady’s been doing relatively well with her. Now that she’s crawling he’s having some sharing issues. But it’s totally normal since he’s just a toddler and they’re only 2 years apart. Lately he’s been saying, “back away baby” when she gets close to his stuff. He’s very protective of his doggy guitar and his trains. When he’s not having problems sharing, he’s so sweet to her. He hugs her, gets her toys, and just generally watches out for her. I hope they have a great relationship as they get older.

  1. Darlene Ysaguirre says:

My son is 9 months and he also started crawling at 8 and now he follows me room to room crawling and crying at the same time and the minute i pick him up hes a happy camper lol

  2. My daughter was trying to get into my yarn at 8 months old.

  3. joanna garcia says:

wait til she starts cruising (walking holding on to couch etc) and they get faster! how exciting!

  4. So adorable! Love those little teeth showing in her photos :) We’ve only got one tooth so far but working on the others I think.

  5. Jenny, she is so adorable! I love these updates. I’m interested in learning more about self-weaning. My daughter is 7 months old and I’m wondering how/when she’ll wean herself off of nursing.

    • Grady self-weaned when he was almost 2 – right before Haley was born. I imagine Haley will be similar. :) I just go with the flow. Have you started solids yet?

      • Going with the flow is a good approach! We started solids about 2 months ago actually. We are now up to two ingredients (carrots and sweet potatoes for example).

  6. That is so cute – i love everything that comes with this age

  7. My daughter is 3.5 now, but at 8.5 months she walked clear across the room and hasn’t stopped running since then! It was a shock to us, as she had just mastered crawling, but she wanted to be on the move! My daughter self-weaned at 18 months, the same time she gave up her pacifier on her own. Up 8 times at night is rough! We still have a lot of nights like that, she sleeps through the night maybe once a week. She has never been a good sleeper and gave up consistent naps at 1 year old. Your daughter is adorable and you take great photos!

  8. My youngest just turned 14 months and she still wakes several times per night. It is exhausting!

    PS, she is too cute!

  9. We had sharing issues once our youngest was able to “get” his stuff. It does get better, but I have a feeling this will be a battle I will have for a while

  10. Sharing goes pretty well here, I don’t really know why. My littlest in almost 11 months, which is TERRIBLE! :(

  11. What a fun way to document your babies developments and memories.

  12. I seriously cannot get over how beautiful this little gal is!

  13. I loved reading about Haley and how she’s progressing.

  14. So cute!! It’s amazing how times flies. My little one will be 2 next month.

  15. She is adorable! Your pictures are so cute!

  16. so cute.. they grow up so fast.

  17. Okay, I had to laugh at “back away, baby,” That is just too cute!!!

  18. Your comment about Grady cracked me up. Telling his sister to “back away!” It’s so funny to see how intense they get about toys. Although having siblings means inevitable conflict, I think the joys and benefits far outweigh the negatives!

  19. She is so stinkin’ adorable!!

  20. She’s so cute! And, I love that you shared that you’re still breastfeeding – I breastfed my son until he stopped at 15 months. Good for you!

  21. What a great smile!

  22. What a cutey! I honestly do not remember what my kids were doing at 8 months. They’re teens now & I really wish they were 8 months old again some days. I remember 9 months was standing though and starting to walk. That was fun!

  23. She is adorable. Without looking at notes or photos I have no Idea what mine were doing..they are 9 and 5 now.

  24. she is so beautiful! adorable little photos like these really make me want to have a little girl :( i have two boys and am outnumbered.

  25. Hey is so adorable! My little girl, Kenzie, will be 8 months in 4 days and I am so excited about all the changes that will be coming soon! She has no teeth yet..no signs of crawling, other than scooting very slightly when on her tummy, and she wakes up 3-4 times a night also! I love reading your posts…I had to come back to the 8 month Haley post to see what we can look forward to :)

    • Thank you so much! Totally made my day! :) Congrats on your daughter! Watching them grow up and learn new things is amazing! :)

  26. That was supposed to be Haley**
