When you’re pregnant and breastfeeding you become super aware of everything you put in or on your body. From your skin care and makeup to the type of food you eat, everything can have an effect on your unborn baby or nursling. I never used to worry about the ingredients in my makeup and face wash until I became pregnant. There are a TON of chemicals and unknown ingredients in the traditional store bought stuff. It didn’t take me long to make the switch to more natural and organic personal care products for me AND my family. If you’re pregnant or nursing, there are even specific products out there just for you so you can be safe…..and pretty!
Pretty Mommies is a company that’s doing just that – offering a line of skin care products for expecting and breastfeeding moms. Their 3-step product line was created to offer safe, effective skin care designed and formulated specifically for pregnancy and breastfeeding to deal with hormonal acne and melasma (hyper-pigmentation), 2 of the most common problems during this time. They use only natural high quality ingredients that are paraben free, phthalate free, sulfate free, and phenoxyethanol free.
When Pretty Mommies contacted me to see if I wanted to try out their skin care line I was so excited! I normally only get products to review for my kiddos so it was nice to get to try something for myself! They sent me their 3 Step System - Lets Be Clear Facial Cleanser, Truth Be Told Skin Brightener, and Protect and Reflect SPF 30. Before we get into the reviews of each of the products, let me just tell you that this stuff smells DIVINE! Like tropical fruit. Every time I use it I can’t help but think about how good it smells!
The Lets Be Clear Facial Cleanser comes in a 4 fl. oz. bottle for $34. It’s more than I would normally pay for face wash, but I’ll definitely be purchasing this once it’s gone. First, love the smell. Second, it cleans really well-leaving no trace of mascara around my eyes. And third, it’s natural AND safe. The ingredients are clearly spelled out and Pretty Mommies has even taken the extra step to explain what each ingredient does and where it comes from. Love that! I don’t have to search around to figure out what something is! Here’s all what this cleanser can do for your pregnant or nursing skin:
- Will effectively cleanse and gently exfoliate your skin, removing makeup and impurities.
- Offers natural antibacterial and astringent properties while keeping your skin hydrated.
- Provides high levels of anti-oxidants which help to fight free radicals that cause fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.
- Contains natural anti-inflammatory properties that promote healing and restores the skins natural pH balance.
Step 2 is the Truth Be Told Skin Brightener that comes in a 2 oz. bottle for $88. It’s designed to safely and effectively lighten hyper-pigmentation and help to provide a more even skin tone. I never had hyper-pigmentation during either of my pregnancies, but have dealt with blotchiness and just dull looking skin. This stuff has really helped to even everything out and to wake up my face a little. I feel more radiant and glowing after putting it on. Seriously! The reason this stuff works so great is because it’s packed with Vitamin C. As with the cleanser, you can see a list of ingredients and what they’re for on the website. If you suffer from hyper-pigmentation than the price is definitely worth it.
The last step in the system is the Protect and Reflect SPF 30 Sunscreen that comes in a 2 oz. bottle for $36. I love that they’ve included sun protection in their skin care line. Normally, I tend to forget about applying sunscreen, but now that I’m using this system, it’s so easy to remember because it’s part of the process. This sunscreen is zinc oxide based (20%) but goes on clear! It’s amazing that it’s not white! The sunscreen I use for Grady takes forever to rub in and the white to disappear. This stuff is so much easier to apply. They use non-nano particle zinc oxide which is considered to be the safest sun protection available.
The whole system works really well together and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my complexion and overall skin tone. My skin feels clean, clear, and brighter. I love that I know exactly what I’m putting on my face and that it’s safe for both me and my baby.
BUY IT: You can purchase each item individually at the prices listed above or the whole 3 Step System for $158 on the Pretty Mommies website or through select Dermatologists and Spa Centers. It’s a little pricey but it really works and it’s great to have products specifically formulated for pregnancy and nursing, although you don’t have to be either to benefit from the system.
Don’t forget to check out Pretty Mommies on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date on any new products and sales!

Although I was sent complimentary items for review purposes, I was not paid or enticed to write an awesome review for these products! All opinions expressed are 100% mine! Logo and product photos are curtesy of Pretty Mommies.

I love that you are reviewing something for us mommies! We sometimes forget about ourselves since we are so concerned about our kiddos! Love your review. favorite thing is that the sunscreen is clear and it’s all a step system, easy to remember to do all steps! Thanks
Thank you for helping us postpartum mommies!
I’d love to try these. During pregnancy and breastfeeding its so hard to find safe products.
I wish I knew about this while I was pregnant! I thought the only thing I could use was Cetaphil! My skin was a wreck.
I got a few more freckles, but nothing too bad. We pay attention to medications and foods, but often don’t think about topical exposure to make up, shampoo, other products. Thanks for the review!
I would love to try these.
So thankful you posted this! I have stopped all my cleansers because of the ingredients, and I know I can safely use the Pretty Mommies 3 Step Skin Care! I will adore this when I breastfeed!
I love that it is safe. I am always afraid to use anything when pregnant because I am afraid of what it could possibly do to the baby. Glad to know there are some safe products out there
I never thought about the ingredients of the face products that I wore prior to having kids. Once the first one was born, I stopped wearing face products altogether because he loved to give me kisses (and sometimes suck on my face). I’m so glad to know that there are products out there that are safe not just for us, but for when the baby gives us loving. I’ve been looking for a natural cleanser that can get rid of mascara. Thanks for noting that on the review.
It’s nice to do something for MOM every once in awhile.
I’m glad you got to pamper yourself!
I did notice a difference the 2nd time but in a good way-my son made my skin look great! I actually had the pregnancy glow that everyone talks about (my 1st suspicion that I was having a boy). With my daughter, it became a lot drier.
This is a perfect product for pregnancy. I am a licensed esthetician and I could not look for anything more in a pregnancy skincare routine.
I could definitely use this to help me with my hormonal acne :/
The last time I was pregnant I broke out all the time! It was awful! This skin care looks like it works really well!
