Fluffy Fridays: Potty Training Readiness {+ Pourty Potty Review & Giveaway}

228 Flares 228 Flares ×

It’s sad to think about, but one day you’re little one will no longer need cloth diapers. Thankfully, Grady’s not even close to being ready to potty train and I’ve got another one coming in June! Yay for more cloth diapers!

A couple months ago I thought Grady was ready to start, but it turns out he wasn’t! I think part of it was me wanting him to be potty trained before his sister gets here and I jumped at the first sign that he was ready and got him a potty chair. I quickly realized he wasn’t and have just backed off and am waiting until he’s REALLY ready. Plus, I’m thinking about doing the whole potty train in a weekend method and he definitely needs to be really ready for that! So right now, he sits on his potty chair occasionally, mostly when I’m using the bathroom and we’ve been reading lots of potty training books. Once Upon a Potty Sound Book for Boys is our current favorite.

So here’s some signs your little one may be ready (adapted from Babycenter):

  • Urinates a lot at once
  • Predictable bowel movements
  • Can sit in one spot for about 5 minutes
  • Can pull pants up and down
  • Dislikes being in a wet or dirty diaper
  • Shows interest in other people using the bathroom
  • Tells or gestures to you when needs to go potty or when going
  • Wants independence
There’s a ton more signs to looks for, but those are the biggies. We’re currently showing 4 out of the 8. Which I think is pretty good considering he’s only 22 months old and I’ve heard boys take longer.

Even though he’s not ready, I’m so glad I have a potty chair for him in the bathroom. When I was researching what potty chair to get, I came across the Pourty Potty. I can’t figure out how I’m supposed to say it though! Pour-ty Potty or Purr-ty potty (since there’s a picture of a cat on it). Anyone know??? Well, Pourty Potty graciously sent one for Grady! My first impression was that it was tiny! I guess I’m used to seeing the bigger ones in the stores that come with all sorts of compartments to put wipes and books, etc. This potty is just the basics. Nothing fancy and that’s what I like about it!

What Pourty Potty is known for is their design that allows you to pour the contents easily into your toilet. Since Grady has neither pee’d or poo’d in it, I tested it out with some water. It definitely pours easily and I didn’t make a mess anywhere, leaving the seat dry for the next use. I’m not sure how easy/hard it is to clean up poo in any type of chair, but the material of this potty seems really smooth and there’s no nooks or crannies where any ick could get stuck. I think it would definitely be easier to keep clean long term than the bulkier brands out there. It’s also got a pretty high splash guard in the front for boys which I think will be very helpful once Grady’s ready!

Colors of the Pourty Potty

The only problem we’ve encountered with the potty is that it slides a little bit on our bathroom floor (it’s linoleum). For now, since he’s just sitting on it with his pants on, I’ve just stuck our rug under it so it doesn’t slide when he sits down. That’s not going to work when he actually starts peeing in it, since I don’t want a pee soaked rug if he misses. I’m thinking of sticking one of those no slip mats underneath. What do you guys think?

I like that the Pourty Potty has several different colors my favorite is purple. Another great feature of a pour spout. And the one piece construction much easier to clean and disinfect.

  16. Candice Hull says:

This is a great idea. My oldest son (4) Elijah used to potty in his chair and want to help pour it out. Of course, we didn’t have the pourty chair so he would dump it really fast and it would come out from all sides. I would definitely get the blue one for my youngest that is about to start training.
    Thank you!

  17. I’d get blue for my son!

  18. Melissa O. says:

I would get purple. This would be perfect for my youngest. He’s turning 2 next month but he is already peeing on the potty. This is something he started oing on his own without and help or coaching from me. Very different from my 4 year old who would have nothing to do with the potty an wasn’t trained until he was three.

I like the way the Pourty Potty was invented, emptying is not a problem now and they’re still cute. If I won, I would probably get the purple or cream color because I have both a 1-year-old granddaughter and a 2 month old grandson living at home. My granddaughter should be ready to start exploring potty seats but I would like to keep the same one for when my grandson grows up enough to use one as well
