Earth Day Event Sponsor Spotlight: SKOY Cloth

I feel like my family goes through a million paper towels. I try to limit using them, but when they’re sitting out on the counter, I just can’t help it! I’ve tried buying the “greener”  recycled versions, but honestly, they don’t absorb well and they fall apart immediately. I always end up going back to the regular kind and then feel guilty for using them, especially since paper waste is the largest contributor to landfills (more information of the impact of paper towels found here). I just don’t feel good adding to that.

Logo for SKOY ClothOn my search to find an alternative to paper towels, I came across SKOY Cloth. They’re reusable cleaning cloths that are also 100% biodegradable and natural. Made from natural cotton and wood pulp cellulose, one SKOY Cloth can replace 15 rolls of paper towels. 15 ROLLS!! They come in packs of 4, so you’re ultimately replacing 60 rolls of paper towels. Isn’t that amazing?!

Product Photo for SKOY ClothOwners, Michelle and Karen, kindly sent me a pack of SKOY Cloths to try out. They’re a little weird at first, since when dry they’re really stiff, but when you wet them, they turn into this wonderful soft absorbant cloth. After wetting one, just squeeze out the excess water and get to cleaning! They’re great for cleaning up kitchen spills, washing dishes, and just about anything else you would use a paper towel or sponge for (although I wouldn’t recommend using one to soak up excess grease from cooking bacon). They’re even soft enough for me to use to wipe off Grady’s hands and face after meals. Once they’re dirty, you’ve got several options. You can throw it in the washer and dryer, your dishwasher, and even the microwave! I tried all 3 methods and each one gets the SKOY Cloth clean and ready to use again. They seem to shrink up a little after washing and drying, but so far have gone back to their regular size after wetting again. I’ve been using them for over a month now, and each one is still in great condition. I imagine I’ll get many more months of use out of them before they fall apart! They’ve definitely helped to cut down on my paper towel usage!

The only negative thing I’ve noticed, is that the black ink from the design has faded and smeared a little. It didn’t come off on to anything I was cleaning though. The reason for this, I believe, is that the design is made from water-based inks, so it makes sense that it’ll fade over time. I’ll gladly trade some fading in return for having a non-toxic product!

We do use paper towels, but sparingly. There are just times that cloth isn’t convenient. I really like that these are made from what are basically scrap materials. There are so many by-products that can be used rather than wasted.

  24. they wound great maybe next time i buy from amazon i will get some, i use paper towels on everything.

  25. Deborah Wallin says:

I have never heard of these before, but they sound like a great alternative.
